Otters Golf Tournament a Huge Success

As we are just over the halfway point in January and have experienced lots of what “Old Man Winter” has to offer with snow storms and frigid weather, we thought it might be a good time to look back on an activity that took place on a warm summer-like day, to remind us winter doesn’t last forever.
On Wednesday, September 11th the Otters hosted a fundraising Golf Tournament and Dinner that was a huge success.
The tournament took place at the world renowned Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course and Mother Nature was on our side as we had a beautiful summer-like day to take in the sights of the stunning course, enjoy camaraderie of friends new and old and raise some funds for the Community Owned Huntsville Jr C Otters. Dinner was held back at the Active Living Centre with a wonderful meal put on by The Algonquin Cafe and Deli and all had a chance to come together to socialize with the other teams once the golf portion of the day was completed.
Once again, we were humbled by the outpouring of the support from the Community as, in addition to the day being enjoyable, it was also a successful fundraiser for the Otters. We are a Community Based Team, which means that we rely on fundraising, sponsorship and gate proceeds to finance our Team and bring Junior Hockey to Huntsville. Without such wonderful support from our community, it would not be possible for us to operate.
We would like to give a huge shoutout to Ken McDougall and Kim Benedetti. These two men came to us to say they would like to spearhead a fundraising golf tournament in support of our team. This was such a selfless and gracious undertaking and we are extremely appreciative – Kudos to Ken and Kim!
Many thanks to Taylor Ophelders, Matteo Nobile, Zachary Farnsworth and the Staff at Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course for all their help and professionalism in preparing and executing the event. Many thanks to the Staff of the Algonquin Cafe and Deli for preparing and serving our delicious dinner. Many thanks to Wanda Benedetti, Lorrie McDougall, Shelley Clouthier, Leslie Jones, Sandy Little, Laurie Lamont and Deb Hopcraft who volunteered their time along with the Huntsville Otters Executive to help make the day a success.
With this being our first full on fundraising golf tournament, we were very thrilled to have such a strong response with 116 golfers supporting us by participating in the tournament.
